Venture Lapland founding partner Petri Juotasniemi is responsible for real estate at the company. He explains why Lapland’s top-segment growth is held back by the building stock – and why now is the time to build in the North.
Tourism growth depends on walls
When people talk about tourism in Lapland, attention often goes to experiences and service. According to Juotasniemi, however, the foundation of growth is more concrete: real estate. In the top segment, the accommodation is not just a place to sleep but the core of the whole product – and it has to meet the international guest’s expectations down to the smallest detail.
Demand in Lapland’s top segment clearly exceeds supply. The biggest brake is not marketing but accommodation capacity.
Lapland is not a trend
According to Juotasniemi, the industry outlook is strong – as long as growth is pursued sustainably.
“Lapland is not a passing boom. Authenticity, silence and pristine nature never age. That is why everything is worth building to a standard that will still serve a hundred years from now.”
